Characterization of the typology of failures presented in the pavements of the city of Ocaña Norte de Santander
Abstract
The failures in the pavements are presented by the progressive deterioration that occurs over time. One way to identify failures is through a visual inspection, which is how in this investigation several sections of the main urban roads in the municipality of Ocaña, Norte de Santander, were inspected. The information was consolidated through formats where coordinates, lane widths, severity level, observations and photographic record of the failures were recorded. Once the information was tabulated, it was found that 9,277 ml of road sections were analyzed, of which 3,051 ml (32.89%) have flexible pavement and 6,226 ml (67.11%) have rigid pavement. In the flexible ones, the most representative types of failures were crocodile skin and potholes and, in the case of the rigid ones, it was cracks and disintegration. The degree of severity of the aforementioned failures, both in the case of flexible and rigid pavements, is medium to high; This being an indicator of the levels of deterioration of the pavements in the analyzed road sectors. Many of the failures may be associated with deficiencies in the pavement structure and inadequate subgrade soil conditions.
