“Lo fue casi todo…”. La trayectoria del visitador fiscal Victorino Garrido en tiempos de formación estatal (Chile, 1820-1830)

Abstract

The article reconstructs the trajectory of Victorino Garrido, who will work as a fiscal inspector between 1830 and 1835, touring the territory of the republic from north to south. Through the correspondence addressed to the Minister of the Interior, the official prepares a diagnosis on the material and human situation of the public administration and the main problems and challenges that affect it. His story will thus serve as a key piece in the elaboration of the political and economic project of the conservative governments. On the other hand, these pages reveal an actor whose practice of public exercise is empowering him, precisely as an agent of a State that in these decades has strengthened his power.
