The article presents the broad scientific production on vector borne diseases in the last five years available in virtual libraries ,presents the profile of Brazilian research groups in this theme and highlights the importance of Fiocruz as a strategic institution of the State. The recommended actions for the promotion and prevention of these diseases are based on the integrative view of the One Health concept, which associate actions of environmental and entomological surveillance, biological control and education. In addition, it presents the proposal of a professional qualification course for the health area based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the critical environmental education that will allow the improvement of the performance of the activities carried out by the health professionals, focusing their actions in the care with the environment and health promotion
