This paper is analysing the possibilities of raising and development of an agriculture of proximity in Argentina, a country that is submitted to a strong neoliberal plan. Since 1975, market gardening outside the city of Bahía Blanca was based upon a high control of the local market by farmers organisations and local authorities. After 1995, it abruptly opened to the national market of fresh vegetables which is developing rapidly. An inductive analysis of the commercialisation chain shows first that the previous system is no more viable and that «discreet» initiatives of local actors allow to do up a proximity market gardening, to the condition of being sustained and articulated with the emerging national market.
