Ayurvedic management of secondary infertility with bilateral tubal block

Introduction: Infertility is an alarming situation in India. Instances of women facing the problem to get pregnant for the second time are a growing concern. It badly affects woman's social and interpersonal relations. The tubal blockage is one of the most common causative factors in female infertility where the prevalence is 19.1% in the fertility age group in India.Main Clinical Findings: A 34-year-old female patient with a complaint of want issue for the last 2 years with bilateral tubal block and positive TORCH infection. Diagnosis: Secondary infertility with a bilateral tubal block. Interventions: The patient was treated with the combined Ayurvedic protocol of oral medicines and Uttara basti (~intrauterine instillation). For Uttara basti medicines used were Apamarga kshara taila, Bala taila, and Phala Ghrita. Oral medicines selected were Cap. Torchnil, Arogyavardhini Vati, Shatavari Gudam, Punarnavadi Mandoo, and Phala ghrita. Outcome: A combination of oral medicines and two courses of Uttara basti were found significantly effective in removing the tubal block and the patient got conceived in the next menstrual cycle. Conclusion: Uttara Basti can be a good and possible treatment protocol for bilateral tubal block. However, more studies with appropriate research methodology should be needed for the scientific validation of Uttara Basti in the management of tubal blockage along with Torch infection.
