TM & MT na tradução técnica globalizada – tendências e conseqüências.
Abstract
This paper reviews some consequences of Machine Translation (MT) and Translation Memories (TM) in the field of technical translation and reports trends and developments in this area. There is convergence between the apparently opposite approaches of MT and TM as far as a) both integrate complex tools associated with their counterpart, b) they are used in combination and c) by the trend to use Controlled Natural Language (CNL) in both, be it a priori and explicitly or a posteriori and implicitly. The article also discusses root causes for problems in TM use detected by other authors and defends that there is a tendency of fusion between original and translated text in technical translation, be it via introduction of sophisticated CNL systems or by using Authoring Memories (AM). Keywords: CAT, Machine Translation, MT, Translation Memories, TM, Controlled Language, CNL.
