An eco-friendly, mild, and convenient protocol has been described for the preparation of kojic acid derivatives in aqueous media by Cu2+-impregnated ZIF-8 as an efficient catalyst. No column chromatography, no workup, environmentally benign, simple, widely applicable and efficient method is described. Products were obtained in 85–93 % yield.
