Review of Recent Developments and Applications in Augmented Reality

Abstract

Aim of this research is to investigate recent developments on Augmented Reality Technology which is so popular nowadays and creates an enriched environment by adding images to real world images. Whereas in early years the Augmented Reality Technology was considered as limited because of the inefficiency of technological instruments, very expensive to use and hard to build, under support of present day developments in software and hardware the application area has enlarged and it is used in industry, education, traffic, health, sport, entertainment and military fields. Varieties of application field and scientific developments have brought along to refer “Augmented Reality Technology” as “Augmented Reality Mediums”. In this review, national and international academic studies and private sector applications based on Augmented Reality Technology have been analyzed. Evaluation results on considered studies are presented in terms of details, characteristics (strong and weak sides), applications areas and application purposes.
