Retrospective analysis of 489 serologically positive inpatients with syphilis

Objective To investigate the infection status and clinical characteristics of patients with syphilis, in order to provide a basis for clinical prevention and treatment of syphilis. Methods Clinical characteristics and laboratory inspection of syphilis inpatients in our hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Results 108 776 inpatients were tested in the study, the positive results of male inpatients was 273 and that of female was 216. The positive rate of syphilis was the highest in the age group from 61 to 80 years old. The higher positive rate of departments were neurology, orthopedics, gynaecology and obstetrics. The rate was 1.17%, 0.76%, 0.61%, respectively. Among the positive of serology of syphilis patients, 80.16% were latent syphilis, 7.98% were serum fixed, 5.32% were biological false positive, 6.54% were difficult to distinguish. Conclusion We should take care of the aged and pregnant woman. Latent syphilis, serum fixed and biological false positive should be considered when positive of serology of syphilis is found, medical history and follow-up is important.
