THE LINKS BETWEEN PERSONAL AMBITIOUSNESS AND PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATION OF ADOLESCENT MALES AND FEMALES

Abstract

Purpose. The article is devoted to the problem of conscious choice of profession at adolescence which is actual in connection with the increasing need of the society in qualified professionals. The subject of the research is the links between personal ambitiousness and professional orientation of adolescent males and females. The authors seek to identify how ambitiousness influence their professional orientation. Methodology of work. The research was conducted with the help of the following diagnostic techniques: «Definition of professional aptitude» L. Yovayshy, «Study of self-esteem of a person» S.A. Budassi, «Diagnostics of achievement motivation» A. Mehrabian, «Diagnostics strategies of behavioral activity in stress conditions» L.I. Vasserman and N.V. Gumenyuk. The authors used mathematical-statistical methods of data processing including calculation of descriptive statistics, criterion of Kolmogorov-Smirnov for one selection, the criterion of Student for independent selection, the criterion of Mann-Whitney, Spearman rank correlation. All calculations were performed using a computer program IBM SPSS Statistics 21. The results. The conducted empirical research allows to state the connection of ambitiousness with professional orientation of male and female adolescents. There are significant differences between males and females in terms of professional orientation. Males prefer the sphere of technical interest, mental activity, and material sphere, while females prefer the sphere of arts and working with people. In a male group significant links between the indicators of ambitiousness and professional orientation on technical interests were established. In a female group significant links between the indicators of ambitiousness and orientation on working with people were found out. Ambitious young men and women are characterized by consciousness professional aptitude and desire to achieve their goals professionally. Sphere of implementation of the results. The results of this research can be applied in the practice of psychological counseling in career guidance and provide opportunities for career programs.
