The roles of platelet rich plasma in bone grafts

Background: Periodontitis leads to the loss of attachment apparatus and in the end could lead to partial or full edentulous. The bone defects has been evolved using guided bone regeneration technique and using different types of implants. To restore the strength of bone and heal the wound fast and properly, some agents are required to stimulate and increase healing and bone generation, these factors are growth factors. Growth factors are exist in large amount in alpha granules of platelets. Platelet rich plasma are enrich with growth factors which are required for bone growth. The aim of this review is to overview the role and uses of platelet rich plasma in bone regeneration. Methods: Scientific websites were used to search for articles related to the current subjects, scientific web site include Pubmed, Google Scholar and ReserchGate. Several articles were obtained. Results: In this review, 6 articles were included, the articles were published between the years 2014–2017. Conclusion: PRP showed an efficacy and positive effect on bone regeneration treatment.
