Halal supply chain management: A bibliometric analysis of the 100 most-cited publications from Scopus-indexed journals
Abstract
Despite the growing demand for bibliometric studies, especially in Halal research, specific bibliometric insights into influential publications in Halal supply chain management remain scant. This study uniquely conducts a bibliometric analysis of the 100 most-cited journal articles on Halal supply chain management based on data retrieved from Scopus (2008–2023). The study involved VOSviewer and Harzing's publish or perish as the main tools for data analysis. A total of 100 journal articles and reviews were analysed using keyword co-occurrence analysis and bibliographic coupling to identify several themes within the context of Halal supply chain management. The keyword co-occurrence analysis produced six themes, including “consumer behaviour and the application of blockchain in Halal supply chain”, “bibliometric analysis and literature review in the Halal food supply chain”, and “Islam and Halal logistics in Malaysia”. While bibliographic coupling produced seven themes, such as “food integrity and blockchain in Halal supply chain management”, and “the analysis of Halal logistics and supply chains on aspects such as adoption of Halal logistics, challenges and opportunities, service quality, and consumer behaviour”. Despite its limitations, the study highlights the novel insights and knowledge gaps on aspects linked to Halal supply chain management. The presented themes and insights contribute significantly to the body of Halal research by considering the bibliometric analysis on the 100 most-cited journal publications.
