Float is perhaps the cheapest mechanical transducer used for measuring the liquid level in a storage tank. But the main drawback of this transducer is that it is primarily used in the local indicator. Costlier and complicated designs are needed to transmit the float position to a remote station like control room. In the present paper a modified design of an electronic float transducer has been proposed for continuous measurement of liquid level in a storage tank. The design and principle of operation of the transducer has been described in the paper. The operation of the transducer has been experimentally tested and the experimental results are reported in the paper. A very good linearity and repeatability of the transducer characteristic has been observed.
