In this paper I analyze 11 interviews carried out with people who use alcohol or are related to people who do so. All the participants are residents of a Venezuelan community, San Antonio de los Altos. I have chosen these particular people because they relate to the use of this substance in varying ways and they have contrasting relationships with others who use it. I use a rhetorical and hermeneutic analysis to create new texts in the senses developed by BURKE and BILLIG. I conclude with a brief reflection on how the different ways that people relate to alcohol are found in their lifeworld (HABERMAS). Changes in this relationship seem to happen through access to new models in this world. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs050384
