Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of low birth weight newborns according to pre and perinatal data, according to the Information System on Live Births (SINASC) in the State of Pernambuco. Method: This is a descriptive and transversal study, using secondary data referring to the year 2017. The dependent variable was low birth weight, while the independent variables were maternal age, level of education, prenatal consultations, prematurity and Apgar. Results: Mothers aged 45 to 49 years and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years, no maternal education, number of consultations 1 to 3 or none, prematurity and Apgar < 7 in the first and fifth were found to have a high percentage of low birth weight. Conclusion: The profile of low birth weight newborns was related to prenatal and peri-natal variables.
