Şeyh Ahmed, a little known but in fact a strong poet and vocabulary writer, lived in the 17th century. Nazmu'l-Leal, an Arabic-Turkish poetic dictionary written by Şeyh Ahmed, is not a well known work and we do not run into its name in other classical dictionaries and works. We have tried to introduce this work to the world of science on the basis of its four manuscripts. The work consists of 659 couplets, 5 rubais and 1 mustezad and explains the Turkish meanings of some 3000 of Arabic vocabulary. After a short introduction of the poet we have concentrated on poetic characteristics of the work, the methods used in it, and the importance of the work on the basis of its richness with regard to its vocabulary of Turkish origin.
