Abstract
This article provides information on the book ofOdessanineteenth century of scientific libraries ONU Mechnikov. The purpose of the study was to show a book as a tool for social communications in the past. The role of books in social communications. The place of books in communication and information processes. Publication analyzes some of the funds of the university library, which occupied an important place in the development of social communications inOdessaof the nineteenth century. In particular, the article analyzes theOdessahistorian, social activist A. Skalkovsky. Results of the study can be used by teachers, students and researchers interested in the history of social communication issues. Study and analysis of library book collections have helped to create a coherent picture of the formation and development of book heritage ofOdessa. Social communication is an important requirement scientific progress and the basis for the dynamic development of social relations. The book was one of the oldest means of communication, which occupies an important place in communication and information processes.
