The article deals with the problematic issues related to the criminal law regulation of the protection of life and health of employees of places of deprivation of liberty and places of detention from criminal attacks by the special contingent. The purpose of this article was to analyze historical sources of responsibility for the infringement of persons providing isolation from society in the pre-revolutionary period. To achieve this goal, the author conducted a study of the provisions of historical documents establishing responsibility for violations of the life and health of persons ensuring the isolation of convicts from society, as well as employees of places of detention. The study concluded that the legislation in the field of protection of persons whose duties included the execution of criminal penalties was regulated by the rules of law aimed at protecting their lives and health from criminal attacks.
