To determine the place of damage (OMP) on power lines (transmission lines) are used fixing devices (FP) and having the function of OMP emergency event recorders (RAS) and microprocessor protection terminals. The analysis of accuracy of WMD devices for 2017 presented in the article revealed an unacceptable error in 87 cases out of 1415 actuations. This fact determined the conduct of experimental and theoretical work to assess the accuracy of WMD devices of domestic and foreign manufacturers and software systems. Field tests were carried out on 220 kVtransmission lines and above in the North Caucasus, Siberia and the far East. To verify the reliability of the test results, experiments were simulated in the RTDS system. According to the results of experiments, the WMD devices using the two-way wave method showed the highest accuracy. The advantages and disadvantages of all used WMD devices are determined and a list ofproposals for their improvement is formulated.
