EL QUIEBRE EPISTEMOLÓGICO Y EL SURGIMIENTO DEL NUEVO SUJETO DE CONOCIMIENTO EN LA HISTORIA GENERAL Y NATURAL DE LAS INDIAS DE GONZALO FERNÁNDEZ DE OVIEDO
Abstract
La Conquista del Nuevo Mundo propició un cambio fundamental en la historia del conocimiento y anticipó fenómenos que luego vemos aparecer como motores fundamentales de la revolución científica acaecida entre el siglo XVI y el XVII. El presente artículo busca demostrar que estos fenómenos ya pueden ser apreciados en la obra del cronista Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y que la aparición de ellos está íntimamente relacionada con la experiencia de la naturaleza americana. De tal manera, se quiere asentar la importancia del nuevo mundo en la concepción de la ciencia moderna.The Conquest of the New World was at the basis of a highly significant change in the history of knowledge and it anticipated several processes which we will later see as important motivating factors in the scientific revolution of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In this essay, we intend to demonstrate that these processes may already be observed in the writing of the Spanish chronicler Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo; its presence is to be closely related to the experience of American nature. The importance of the New World is thus seen as a major event in the conception of modern science.
