A study of Linguistic Strategies on the Facebook Page “Maepranom”
Abstract
The article aims to study linguistic strategies delivered in the discourse Facebook page “Maepranom”. It seeks to answer which linguistic strategies are deliberately selected to achieve the goals of communication. Data collection took place between 19th June 2020 and 19th June 2022 which allowed 101 discourses to be scrutinized. The results indicated eight strategies adopted throughout the data collection timeframe; system of address, hashtags, puns and word repetitions, slangs, English terms, rhymes, metaphors, and idioms. These eight strategies served the seven purposes of communication which are as follows. 1) to draw reader’s attention, 2) to promote products and increase sales, 3) to create advertising content, 4) to give positive image for products, 5) to create a close atmosphere to readers, 6) to entertain readers, and 7) to offer readers a concrete idea.
