This paper is a part of a research project on the concept of functional limit in which we have been working for a few years. We here contrast whether the notion of limit linked to metrical definition is kept in the pupils’ minds better than the definition as a best (optimal) approximation offered by Blázquez and Ortega in 2002. We refer to an empirical study carried out with students of San Luis National University of Engineering (Argentina), who had studied both concepts in previous years.
