The article reveals the role of musical art as a sphere of selfrealization of the old people. The author addresses the problem associated with the aging trend of the world’s population, realizing the role and prospects of older people in the modern world. The aging stage of a person is considered as a qualitatively new level of personality development and his abilities at all stages of life. Based on the analysis of ideas about the phenomenon of “selfrealization”, it is emphasized that it is associated with thedevelopment of the “I” through one’s own efforts and cocreation with other people. The special attention is paid for to the fact that selfrealization is realized by a person in various spheres, including the musical art. The article notes about the importance of organized musical activity and its accessibility for people of this aging group, and provides the types of institutions in which musical classes are held. The article based the position about that musical art affects both the consciousness and the feelings of people. The involvement of the old person in musical activity should be considered not so much as a form of leisure activity, but as a social practice, within which there is a space for selfrealization of personality.
