Religion and devotion in Van Dyck in Spanish 17th-century collecting
Abstract
The author studies the paintings of religious subjects carried out by Van Dyck for Spain or commissioned by Spanish patrons. Emphasis is placed on the sincere religiosity of these works by the Flemish artist, usually considered to be frivolous and sensuous when handling these themes.
