This article discusses the characteristic features of the work of the Arab writer Naguib Mahfouz, whose creative quest coincided with a change in many social values and stereotypes. This is a process of total alienation, a review of many issues of social development in the context of interdependence and the unity of the world. The creativity of Mahfouz, thanks to the fact that he captured several eras through his life and work - these are the consequences of two world wars, the collapse of the colonial system, and growing globalization - are multifaceted and encompasses many genres of artistic creation. The nature of his work allows us to talk about several stages of his creative life, and the author spoke mainly from the standpoint of historicism and realism. The talent of the writer allowed him to subtly capture the needs of the era, to be realized in such genres and forms as a novel, novel, essay, and story. The success of the works contributed to the popularity of the writer, who received the Nobel Prize in literature in 1988. The article gives a brief overview of the main areas of research around the writer's work, indicates the main works analyzed by Azerbaijani researchers. Parallels are drawn between the ideological content of the work of Mahfouz and other writers, his contemporaries. The main directions of the influence of the literary heritage on modern literary processes are noted.
