Two dimensions of success in ICT standardization—A review

Abstract

This paper discusses “success” in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) standards setting. It first looks inside a standards Working Group (WG) and argues that the skills, attitudes, and behaviors of the individual WG members are important factors that a firm wishing to push a technology must take into account. Using four examples, the paper then extracts some important lessons for those who need to win a “standards war” in the market.
