The article offers recommendations for the reconstruction and new design of Moscow underground structures, as well as recommendations for the emotional self-regulation of citizens moving on the underground. The recommendations are based on the analysis of existing developments as well as the results of research in the field of psychology of emotions, urban planning and architecture. The basic part of this work is the salutogenic approach to the design of the human environment. The process and results of the study on the satisfaction of Moscow residents and visitors to the underground are described. Negative factors of being underground were identified, such as large crowds of people, lack of sunlight and noise pollution. At the same time the negative factors were identified, both perceived and unconsidered by the respondents. Particular attention was paid to lighting as the most important aspect of maintaining both mental state and health in general.
