The impact of higher education on the life success of students

Abstract

Background. The modern young generation differs from the previous ones in its value orientations, motives of behavior, and worldview. The conditions in which the socialization of today’s youth takes place, construct the image of their future. Young people set life goals for themselves and strive to realize them. Young people associate the achievement of all their goals, successful adaptation to changing conditions with life suc-cess. The success of an individual depends on many factors and conditions. The purpose of this work is to analyze the perception of life success among students and the role of education in achieving personal success. Materials and methods. To analyze the problem under study, a secondary analysis of VTsIOM and FOM data was used, as well as an author's sur-vey of student youth conducted in 2023. The study was attended by students of Penza State University (n =400). Results. The analysis showed that in modern Russia it is becoming popular to be successful. Most studies show that respondents consider it important in their lives. In addition, it was revealed that success for modern youth is manifested in material prosperity, family and self-confidence. Young people identify certain conditions and ways to implement their plans, and most often they are associated with personal efforts and social ties, and education plays an important role in this. Conclusions. The study showed that the student youth's assessments of the conditions for achieving success in life are dominated by their own efforts and abilities. Higher education is considered by young people both as a component of life success and as a condition for its achievement.
