Critical Synthesis Package: Tutotest
Abstract
Abstract This Critical Synthesis Package contains: (1) a Critical Analysis of the psychometric properties and the application to health science education of Tutotest, and (2) a copy of Tutotest developed by Réjean Hébert, MD and Gina Bravo, PhD. The Tutotest is a 44-item, Likert-type rating tool used by faculty to assess learner performance during problem-based learning tutorials. The measure assesses learner performance in the following five domains: effectiveness in the group, ability to master problem-based learning, communication and leadership, scientific curiosity, and respect for colleagues. Each item offers the evaluator four levels of descriptive anchors and a “no opinion” option. The evaluator selects an appropriate descriptor for each item and calculates a percent score using a standard formula provided in the tool. Higher scores are reflective of better performances. The scale has demonstrated strong reliability, discrimination power, and convergence in two languages. While theoretically useful in PBL-based learning modalities, its application may be limited by a relatively narrow focus and a comparatively large number of items.
