Artistic creation as cognition (reflections on the work of K. Levi-Strauss)

Abstract

The article analyzes one of the main works of K. Levi-Strauss “Primitive thinking” in the aspect of interpreting the problems of art. Levi-Strauss' view of art as one of the forms of knowledge of the world is investigated; possible consequences of this premise are revealed; the similarities and differences between scientific and artistic knowledge and creativity are demonstrated. It is concluded that in the range of materials, authors and ideas on which the study of the problems of art theory is based, it is advisable to include scientists from various fields of knowledge touching upon similar topics.
