Towards trans-ideological monetary co-operation

Abstract

Several developments after the mid-1960s in socialist and capitalist countries, in particular the upheavals in the international monetary scene and the spectacular expansion of East-West financial relations since the early 1970s, have placed the question of monetary cooperation between the two otherwise rival social systems in a new light. The present work examines the ideological monetary background of capitalism and socialism, the monetary conflicts between the two camps in the past and the forms of monetary cooperation in recent years. The author focuses on the socialist side of these issues and offers some ideas for further improvement in this cooperation. JEL: E52, P10, P20, F33
