In the past few years, José Hernández´s Martín Fierro has been the subject of many rewritings that used eroticism and representations of dissident sexuality or “deviation” as central topics. The inquiries proposed in this article come from the idea that gauchesco genre is based on masculine homosocial ties, which allows the existence of suspicious zones, open to ambivalences that turned out very productive for some recent literary work. The analysis is mainly centered in the short story “El amor” by Martín Kohan and the rewriting operations used by the author. We will also focus on different forms of resignification of Hernandez´s poem: on one hand, we will analyze a mural painted in 2017 by Adrian Medina and Teresa Pérez that represents Martín Fierro and Cruz kissing passionately on the lips; and on the other hand, we will resume the “translation” of Martín Fierro´s passage in inclusive language done in April of 2020, on the show “Seguimos educando” from Canal Encuentro, led by Ángela Lerena and Darío Sztajnszrajber.
