Le four à chaux FR 1430 de Saint-Martin-le-Bas (Gruissan, Aude) : éclairage interdisciplinaire sur la chaufournerie en pays narbonnais aux xie-xiiie siècles
Abstract
An important medieval occupation was discovered in Saint-Martin-le-Bas (Gruissan, Aude) thanks the archaeological excavations of the ancient port. A lime kiln dated between the 11th and the beginning of 13th century is associated at this occupation. This structure being exceptionally well preserved, a wide range of archeometric analyzes has been carried out. They help to better understand the organization of the work and the level of technicality of the savoir-faire of the lime burners. In a context of strong development of the use of lime in the building, the craftsmen of Saint-Martin-le-Bas have been able to take advantage of the raw materials recovered and the fuel from the coastal fringe in a territory making the object of a strategy of development by the archbishops of Narbonne.
