Fatores de Risco ou Proteção para a Presençade Ideação Suicida na Adolescência
Abstract
This quantitative study aims at identifying risk and protection factors in suicide ideation among adolescents fromgeneral population. The sample included 526 youngsters, from public and private schools of Porto Alegre, Brazil,aged 15 to 19 years old. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSI) and a personaldatasheet were used. After crossing socio-demographic data, suicide ideation according to BSI and BDI depressionscores, it was verified that risk factors were mild, moderate and severe depression, as well as the fact of youngstersknew somebody who had already attempted suicide. Concerning other risk and protection factors, it can beverified that these factors, alone, do not turn youngsters vulnerable or protect them. Thus, it must be highlightedthat the main caution shall be taken when several risk factors are present
