The analysis of acoustical quality of classrooms of the public schools of Itajubá – MG

The classroom acoustical quality, represented by the Reverberation Time (RT), is important to the learning process, mainly to the preschool children. This study has evaluated the acoustical quality of the classrooms of the schools of the basic education public net of the municipality of Itajubá (MG). It was estimated the RT values by the Sabine formulae application. It was observed no classroom showed a RT adequate value to this aim, about 0,4 to 0,6 s. In relation to the ambient noise, 30% of the classrooms showed appropriate values only, about 40 to 50 dB(A). One hypothetical installation of specific absorbent panels was discussed, like one possible measure to an acoustical correction of the room. RT measurements procedures are recommended. The acoustical quality subject, due to its relevance, must be considered in the classroom project phase.
