Genetically engineered bacteria hold promising potential in the future applications of bioremediation. This paper presents several construction strategies of genetically engineered bacteria for the bioremediation purpose through analyzing the biodegradation mechanisms of pollutants and encumbering factors for efficacy of biodegradation. These strategies include optimization of the degradation pathways, improvement of the bioavailability to pollutants and enhancement of the abilities of tolerance to the environmental hazardous factors.
