GLI SCAVI E LE RICERCHE DEL DIPARTIMENTO DI CIVILTÀ ANTICHE E MODERNE DELL’UNIVERSITÀ DI MESSINA SUL COLLE DEL PALECASTRO DI TORTORA (L’ANTICA BLANDA): UN BILANCIO PRELIMINARE (2016-2019)

Abstract

Il colle Palecastro di Tortora (CS) si affaccia sul Golfo di Policastro ed è caratterizzato da un plateau sommitale che si sviluppa per ca. 5 ha ad una quota massima di 115 m s.l.m. Gli scavi condotti sul Palecastro dal 1990 al 2006 hanno consentito di ricostruire le dinamiche insediative che hanno interessato il sito a partire dal VI sec. a.C. fino al V sec. d.C. Dal 2016 al 2019 il Palecastro di Tortora è stato oggetto di nuove indagini condotte dal Dipartimento di Civiltà Antiche e Moderne dell’Università degli studi di Messina, sotto la direzione del Prof. F. Mollo, volte a chiarire e ad approfondire caratteristiche e funzionalità delle strutture del Foro di Blanda. Gli interventi messi in atto hanno permesso di aggiungere nuovi dati alle conoscenze delle fasi di vita del Foro nonché dei primi insediamenti sviluppatisi sul colle. The Palecastro hill (Tortora, CS) faces the Policastro Gulf and is characterized by a plateau that extends for approx. 5 ha at a maximum altitude of 115 m a.s.l. The excavations carried out on the Palecastro from 1990 to 2006 made it possible to reconstruct the settlement dynamics that have interested the site since the sixth century. B.C. up to the fifth century A.D. From 2016 to 2019 the Palecastro of Tortora has been the subject of new excavations carried out by the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations of the University of Messina, under the direction of Prof. F. Mollo. The new research aimed at better understanding the characteristics and functionality of the structures of the Forum of Blanda. The interventions allowed us to add new data to the knowledge of the stages of life of the Forum as well as of the first settlements that developed on the hill.
