The study of rural area development is a subject of extensive research and analyses but regarding the competitiveness of rural regions the number of researches is limited. Globalization and the process of digitalization impact the way of development and economic structure of rural regions. The literature review reveals and highlights the rural regions’ definitions used on international level and in Bulgaria, and their peculiarities which suppose their competitive advantages and level of competitiveness. The paper aims the application of the Diamond model developed by Michael Porter to analyze the competitiveness of a particular rural region in Bulgaria through the derived trough the model competitive advantages. The study is conducted by the method of desk research. Conclusions are derived about the studied rural region and on that basis about the benefits and advantages of the usage of the Diamond model.
