Brachyotum sertulatum, a new species of Melastomataceae from Colombia
Abstract
A new species of Melastomataceae, Brachyotum sertulatum C. Ulloa, from southern Colombia is described and illustrated. It is characterized by a conspicuous single row of large tubercles sub-marginal on the leaf blade above. It is endemic to the Páramo de las Papas in the Colombian massif (Macizo Colombiano), between the departments of Cauca and Huila at around 3400 m. Due to the restricted distribution and small population it is assigned the category of Endangered (EN).
