MAHĀBHĀRATA ON THE DUTY OF WOMEN- A DHARMASHASTRIC APPROACH

Abstract

Mahābhārata, the greatest epic, has been, relentlessly, serving all the branches of Sanskrit literature, philosophy, dharmashastra etc., by offering them various ideas and doctrines from its birth time till now. It, as a good pilot, guides mankind to their destination of sustainable development. In present time, one can blame dharmashastras for their rules saturated with discrimination, but in the ancient time they were very essential to build an integrative society of mankind by indicating certain duties systematically. Not only in the past, but even today they are performing to give a constitutional shape to human mind to their right destination. However in our present attempt we look forward to presenting a brief study on the duties of women as prescribed in Mahābhārata.
