Infectious Disease Tutorial For First- and Second-Year Medical Students (Out of Print)

Abstract

Abstract This online tutorial is designed to help first- and second-year medical students learn basic aspects of clinical microbiology. It includes material on microbial identification, culture techniques, and serological measurements. General introductory material is followed by a series of short clinical vignettes illustrating diagnostic applications to various infectious diseases. The tutorial concludes with a short self-help quiz covering the major points of the tutorial. A survey of third-year students indicated that the tutorial is effective in demonstrating the importance of the clinical microbiology laboratory.
