TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS ON FREE ACTIVITIES COURSE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine opinions of primary school teachers about free activities course implemented in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades in Sivas city, Turkey. The study group consists of 30 teachers who teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades in primary schools. This is a qualitative study in nature and the data were collected by using a semi-structured interview form. Content analysis method was used to analyze the data. Study results revealed that the teachers found Free Activities Course necessary but they also stated that they had some problems in practice. They pointed out that lack of physical environment and insufficiency of materials was among the main problems to conduct free Activities Course effectively.
