Plant 2000 – An Exercise in the Benchmarking of Multipurpose Chemical Manufacturing Plants in the Pharmaceutical Sector

Abstract

A study was performed to compare the investment costs and functionality of a number of different multipurpose chemical manufacturing plants, all used for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients and their intermediates. In parallel the functionality required to process a large number of steps was assessed and the results of the two studies were combined. A description of the methodology and of the key findings is given.
