It has been taken for granted that school is an important means of achieving social equality. Andproviding equal justice for all. In this study we will argue that this view of the school is misleading awdproblematic. Schooling in capitalist society does not ameliorate social inequities. The educational systemis no more just or equal than the economy and society itself. The intent of this study will be to further thisargument. and to explore the hidden function of education in capitalist society. To this end we will discusstwo theories: the functional theory. and the conflict theory. which represent two different views regardingthe function of education in capitalist society.
