The present study was undertaken to identify and map out the prevalence of goiter in the rural areas of Ahamadabad and Gandhinagar districts. 60 villages from Ahamadabad and 8 from Gandhinagar district were surveyed. The overall prevalence rate of goiter was 11.5% in Ahamedbad district and 8.4% in Gandhinaagar district. The prevalence of goiter grade I was 6.3% in the preadolescent population in Ahamadabad while it was below 5% in the same age group in Gandhinagar district. These observations Clearly revealed that endemic goiter is prevalent to a mid degree in Ahmedabad district.
