With 170 rock art shelters discovered, during almost thirty years of research in Mato Grosso’s small rocky landscapes, the “Cidade de Pedra” became one of the most important rock art area in South America. The several excavations gave a clear knowledge of the peoplings since ten thousands years. The archaeological material is first composed of lithic series, and then ceramics. For the rock art, it was possible to establish original relations between the symbolic representations and their location in the geographic mosaic of the Cidade de Pedra.
