Wind Instrumentalist’s Magnet-assisted Embouchure Denture

Abstract

Musicians who play wind instruments have been rehabilitated with complete dentures and often feel discomfort while playing their instruments. The difficulty arises during treatment planning owing to the intense physiological demands imposed on the oral and perioral structures, notably the facial muscles when a wind musician blows. Embouchure dentures are designed for their carrier purpose, primarily to suit the functional needs of the orofacial muscles, ensuring that there is no dislodgment of the dentures during the blowing of wind instruments. An embouchure denture for a 50-year-old male patient is developed in this case report with a system of inclined planes in the posterior tooth region and a pair of magnets to repel the retentive trait. A properly constructed embouchure denture can help the musician continue their career, along with functional rehabilitation. This case report aims to describe the process of fabricating a specially engineered prosthesis for a completely edentulous wind instrument player, “the embouchure denture, magnet assisted.”
