A Luxurious Frame for a Precious Gift: Cabinet Showcase for a Map of France at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris

Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of a unique display. It demonstrates the artistic and technical search and studies the motives that conditioned the choice of an artist to fill such an unusual order. Owing to the analysis of previously unpublished graphic materials, it was possible to discover some unknown pages in the history of the largest French company for the production of exhibition equipment and compare it with the work of the offer of a famous Russian furniture maker.
