The KAMO cold-air model of the Umlandverband Frankfurt (UVF — Frankfurt and Environs Association)
Abstract
The KAMO/UVF model was designed as a flexible planning instrument with the objective of allowing the information levels "actual land use", "digital terrain model" and "building height typification", which can be found in the UVF environmental information system and which are necessary for preparing a model for cold-air formation, to be used for updating or simulation purposes at all times in changed land use conditions. Here the requirements developed in the planning stage are satisfied, whereby the effects of various planning variants must be weighed up against one another. The methodical approach by means of a one-dimensional stationary energy balance model to simulate cold-air production and a two-dimensional diffusion model to approximate the cold-air outflows is adapted to the particular problem of the UVF and, in the first execution of the model, was found to lead to plausible results which coincide with earlier measurements. The representation on the outflow dynamics and the treatment of the various types of settlement are to be developed further in the near future. Finally, the model results are to be validated by means of measurements.
