Utilization of Hemp Shives for Various Purposes – a Review
Abstract
Hemp has been cultivated and used by humans for thousands of years. Recently, Cannabis sativa L. commonly known as hemp, has gained attention due to its huge ecological potential as well as the diverse range of raw materials it provides. As a result, it has become one of the most fashionable plants in the world. Traditionally, hemp is grown for seeds or fiber. Fiber accounts for approximately 25% of the stem, while shives the inner woody substance makes up roughly 75%. Shives are renewable, fully biodegradable raw materials with numerous applications across a wide array of industries. The objective of review was to compile and summarize hemp shives research and achievements. In this review, the authors have discussed the potential applications of hemp in different sectors.
